Sascha honoured
Date published: 20 March 2009
Former Limeside swimmer Sascha Kindred went to Buckingham Palace yesterday to receive his OBE from the Queen.
The investiture was for services to disabled sport. Sascha scooped two gold medals in last year’s Beijing Paralympics, bringing his total Paralympic medal haul to nine, including five golds.
Sascha (30) , who once lived in Lower Lime Road and trained at Oldham pool, was named in the New Year’s Honours List.
Now living in Herefordshire, the former Kaskenmoor School pupil, who has mild cerebral palsy, won gold in both the 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley during the 2008 Paralympics in China.
It is not the first time he has met the monarch — in 2004 he was invited to Buckingham Palace for a reception after the Athens Paralympic games.
