Crucial Crew builds bridges in Royton and Shaw
WHITE and Asian children from two schools united for the latest scheme aimed at building bridges in Oldham.
More than 40 pupils from Royton and Crompton and Grange schools attended the Crucial Crew event — aimed at breaking down cultural barriers.
Youngsters were encouraged to work together by Greater Manchester Police’s Counter Terrorism Unit, the Army, Shared Futures — which promotes community integration — and the Oldham Muslim Centre. The event was opened by Chief Inspector Sarah Jones and head teacher of Royton and Crompton School, Des Herlihy.
Chf Insp Jones said: “The event allowed pupils from both schools to interact.
“I’m sure they have taken a lot away from it and will pass on what they’ve learned to their friends.”
Mr Herlihy said: “The aim was to recognise that while people live in different communities, they each have similar ideas about life.
“Engaging with pupils in this way is valuable and influential and helps to break down barriers.”
