A Chadderton school pupil is flying the flag for the Royal British Legion after winning a standard bearers’ competition.
Corporal Kyle Welby of the North Manchester Air Training Corps came first in the Royal British Legion Junior Standard Bearers event held at Easingwold, North Yorkshire.
Kyle, (15), a pupil at South Chadderton High School, said: “This is only the second competition I have entered and to have been judged best in the Northern Region is a great honour. “
Kyle is the Junior Standard Bearer for Middleton Branch of the Royal British Legion.
He was accompanied to the competition by Flying Officer Kevin McGuire, his Commanding Officer, who said: “We are justifiably proud of Kyle. He was examined by three judges, not only on standard bearers’ drill but also on his uniform, and all three judges were very impressed by Kyle’s professionalism, maturity and bearing.”
The squadron meets on Tuesday and Friday evenings at Our Lady’s RC Sports College, Allworth Road, Blackley. Contact Flying Officer McGuire on 07818 415549 for further details.
