Health centre tonic

HEALTH bosses in Royton are getting ready to usher in a new era for healthcare as work on a new health and well-being centre gets under way.
Construction firm Mansell scooped the £9m contract to construct the facility, which will replace the current health centre in Rochdale Road with a modern three-storey complex. Royton sports hall has already been demolished to make way for the building on land bounded by Park Street, Macauley Street, Cardigan Street and Byron Street.
The centre will contain two GP practices, which will move over from the current health centre once the build is completed towards the end of next year, and a host of other vital health services.
Gail Richards, chief executive of NHS Oldham, the local primary care trust responsible for NHS services in the borough, said: “We want to make sure people are getting the high quality health services they deserve.”
