A museum's education officer is seeking sponsors for an event to boost visits by schools.
Katie Millett plans to stage an open evening to promote the Saddleworth Museum and art gallery, which is a charitable trust.
The museum, off Uppermill’s High Street, aims to preserve and record the history and heritage of area.
It runs education workshops on various themes covered by the National Curriculum, including the Romans, Victorians and settlements.
Katie said: “The art gallery is a lovely exhibition space and an ideal venue for social, cultural and community events.
“The popularity of the service is reflected in the number of return visits from schools.
“However, recently there has been a reduction in the number of schools using the museum.”
In a bid to increase the number of school visits and help the museum thrive, Katie is planningan open evening for teachers in late September or early October.
Invitations will go to schools in Oldham, Rochdale, Kirklees and Tameside.
She added: “The aim is to tell teachers about the educational opportunities in Saddleworth, including the museum, the library and the canal cruises. "
The evening, which will include refreshments, will include a presentation, tours of the museum and a trip on the famous Pennine Moonraker canal boat.
