A FORMER caretaker’s house has undergone a £54,000 overhaul to transform it into a community bungalow.
The new facilities at St Anne’s C of E Primary School, Grasscroft, was officially opened yesterday by chairman of governors Councillor Pat Lord, chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council.
And it is used by both the school and community groups for a range of activities such as a toddlers’ music group, ukulele, guitar and recorder lessons, parenting classes and cookery lessons.
Oldham Council originally wanted to sell the building when it became vacant in around 2004, but this was thwarted by access problems. It fell into disrepair before the council agreed to let St Anne’s use it.
The school received a £10,000 Lottery grant for the project, with the rest of the money coming from its own budget.
Deputy head teacher Jane Fraser said: “The creation of our community bungalow has been an exciting project.
“We hope to bring members of our community together and that our bungalow will be a valuable resource for groups and organisations in our area.”
