ENGINEERING apprentices were the toast of the town after being personally thanked at a national awards event for designing and making trophies.
Oldham’s Unity Partnership and its private partner, the Mouchel Group, enlisted OTC, formerly the Oldham Engineering Training Centre, in Lees Road, to design trophies for the Excellence awards held in London.
With categories celebrating a range of achievements, this year saw a staggering 140 contenders battle it out for the coveted awards.
Michael Mitton, an OTC apprentice and employee at Stalybridge firm Sulzer Metco, attended the event, along with OTC manager Stephen Ramsbottom.
Mr Mitton said: “After all the hard work it was excellent to finally see the trophies being awarded to the winners.
“And we got a personal thank-you by Mouchel’s chief executive Richard Cuthbert.
“We also produced a short video about the making of the awards and this was shown on the night to highlight the fact that the nine winners were receiving hand-made trophies, produced right here in Oldham.
“It was a really good night.”
Mouchel is a consulting and business services group which provides design, managerial and engineering services.
