A host of activities and events have been organised to mark No Place For Racism week — part of the No Place For Hate in Oldham campaign.
Oldham Mayor, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, officially launched the week of action in the town centre.
There will be an information stand in the Spindles shopping centre until Friday as well as a football skills competition.
Councillor Rod Blyth, Cabinet member for people and communities, said: “As a council, we feel the hateful nature of racism whether it is practised or promoted, simply has no place in our society.
“We in Oldham are proud of the diverse community we live in.
“The No Place for Racism week allows us to both celebrate this diversity and fight the hate filled racism that would destroy it. I would like to reaffirm the council’s commitment to the principle and practice of equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of race, religion or background.”
