Bar is ordered to shut
Date published: 31 March 2009
YORKSHIRE Street night spot Brownz has been ordered to close for 28 days following a triple stabbing outside.
It’s the first time police in Oldham have used emergency powers to shut a bar.
Oldham Council’s licensing panel met yesterday morning to review the bar’s license under the Licensing Act 2003.
After hearing evidence, the committee decided to suspend the licence for 28 days from yesterday in order for a full review to be carried out.
The review will look at all aspects of crime and disorder in connection to the premises and report back within the 28-day period.
The owner closed the bar at the weekend following a mass brawl outside at 2.45am on Friday.
Three men in their 20s, all from Oldham, were taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with stab wounds. Two have since been discharged, the other transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital for surgery.
