What will computers do for you?

SCHOOLCHILDREN are invited to look into the future, let their imaginations run wild — and win a fantastic prize.
XMA, which supplies IT products and services to schools, has joined forces with Toshiba to give away a laptop and a 37’’ LCD TV.
To enter the competition all schools need to do is encourage children to draw a picture of what they imagine a computer will look like in 2050, listing all its futuristic capabilities and uses.
XMA’s commercial director, Ash Merchant, said: “The competition is an ideal opportunity to get children thinking about the ever increasing presence and purpose of technology in our lives, in a fun, creative way.
“We really want them to let their imaginations run wild. Maybe their computers will be able to make sweets, recycle paper or even save the planet.”
XMA, which will also sponsor the winning school’s sports team kit and sports competition of their choice, is an approved supplier for the new Becta Home Access Scheme which is now piloting in Oldham.
Eligible families can apply for grants to buy computer equipment for their children to use at home.
