SADDLEWORTH artist Sue Platt threw open the doors of her studio in an annual chance for art-lovers to take a behind-the-scenes look.

Sue works from a studio at Woodend Mill, Manchester Road, Mossley.

She invited people to view her work and gave them an insight into how she creates it.

Sue is also holding a solo exhibition throughout April at Leeds Infirmary.

She said the exhibition, entitled A Personal Response, comprises fine print and paintings.

It will be held in the tonic gallery, in a scheme which aims to improve the hospital environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Oldham-born Sue got the inspiration for her interest in ‘found objects’ for sculptures, which make up a major part of her work, from her father, John Connor, who had a chain of second-hand shops in Oldham during the 1960s and 70s.

Sue, who both studied and later taught at Oldham College, set up and ran printmaking and sculpture workshops at Gallery Oldham for several years after it opened, where she also had an exhibition featured in the community gallery.

Some of Sue’s early work, completed when she was a college student, is still on display in the Royal Oldham Hospital — four water colours, situated in the corridor near the maternity department.
