Road run raises £1k

MORE than 170 runners raised around £1,000 for the Mayor’s Appeal with a half-marathon around Oldham yesterday.
The annual event, which set off and finished outside Oldham Sports Centre, attracted runners from far and wide, and is a fixture on the local road running calendar.
The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, was on hand to see them off, and first home was Rochdale Harrier Matthew Proctor in 1hr 15mins and 41secs. Second was Jan Pichl of Newcastle Staffordshire Athletic Club (1.17.51) with Mike Flatley of Middleton Harriers in third place (1.18.48). The first woman was Melanie Woodhouse of Robertstown Running Club (1.33.35) and first local runner was Owen Flange of Oldham and Royton Harriers (1.23.54).
