YOUNG Oldhamers gathered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall to take part in the annual Duke of Edinburgh Award presentation evening.

Those taking part in the scheme performed volunteering work, undertook physical challenges and developed a range of skills in a bid to achieve the prestigious award.

In addition, all 26 Gold winners spent time working away from home on a residential course.

Their hard work was recognised on the night as a total of 400 Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were handed out.

Guest of honour was Oldham Council chief executive Charlie Parker who gave a speech. Oldham Mayor, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, was in attendance with the Mayoress Shafeena Kausar.

Alan Conway, award manager, said: “The night went very well. Mr Parker gave his support for the award and spoke about wanting to develop it.”

Any volunteers willing to help deliver the awards should call 0161-770 3116.
