UPHOLDING tradition: Shirley Taylor from St Mary’s Church, Greenfield, set up stall
ONE of the oldest traditions in Britain was thriving in Oldham today.
Greenfield’s annual Maundy Thursday fair can be traced back to the Magna Carta of 1215, and the right to hold it would be forfeited if it was missed for even one year.
This year saw Shirley Taylor, from St Mary’s Church, Greenfield, set up stall at the event, held at Road End.
She was selling her home-made recipe books in a bid to raise money for the church’s restoration fund.
The fair, organised by local church groups, always proves popular, with stall holders setting up throughout the day.
