A TALENTED young radio presenter has been nominated for a national award after a meteoric rise from tea boy to star DJ.

Chris Younie (22) is shortlisted for the Rising Star gong at the Sony Academy Radio Awards in London on May 11 — hosted by Chris Evans.

The Shaw starlet hosts “You Call The Hits” which broadcasts on The Hits on digital radio, Freeview, Sky, cable and online from Key 103’s studios in Manchester.

The former Crompton House pupil, who went on to study drama at Manchester University, joined Key 103’s Street Team on work experience before becoming presenter of “You Call The Hits” in September, last year.

He said: “I am so thrilled. It is a dream come true — I love my job, it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve made cups of tea, answered phones and pushed buttons to finally get on air. I can’t wait to go to the ceremony and meet my radio heroes, Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Sara Cox.”

Chris’s show airs weekdays from 4-7pm, Saturdays from 10am-2pm and Sundays from 7-10pm. Help Chris to win by voting for him at www.thehitsradio.com/vote.
