Cycling Chaddy falls to earth with a bump
Date published: 14 April 2009
CHADDY The Owl could have done with wings as a bird-brained escapade left him the latest addition to Latics’ lengthy injury list.
Chaddy, namely Wayne Hurst, joined the queue for the treatment table over Easter when he was hurt on Good Friday at Carlisle United.
The Carlisle mascot, Olga The Fox, was causing amusement by cycling around the Brunton Park pitch pre-match.
Chaddy, anxious not to be left out, asked to have a go only to fall off after attempting a wheelie.
And it soon came clear that Chaddy was badly injured as St John Ambulance staff dashed over to administer treatment.
Chaddy damaged ligaments in his right ankle and was in no state to flutter off so the paramedics were forced to wheel him off the ground in a wheelchair. He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary for treatment. Wayne admitted it was not his day as he hurt himeself in an earlier accident before setting foot inside the ground, when he tumbled getting off the coach and cut his elbow.
The injury ruled Chaddy out of yesterday’s game against Crewe at Boundary Park, though Wayne attended the match on crutches.
