Thelma Coburn
A CHARITY stalwart who helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Relief over three decades has died aged 70.
Thelma Coburn died of breast cancer at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice last Tuesday, but she was passionate about helping people with cancer long before she had any experience of the disease, joining the Shaw and Crompton Macmillan Cancer Relief group back in the early 1970s.
Thelma, who leaves two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also served as chairman of the group for 10 years.
Thelma’s work as an assistant librarian in Crompton library for 30 years meant that she was known and loved by many in Shaw.
Thelma’s husband, Ken Coburn (70), of Surrey Avenue, High Crompton, said: “The whole family are really proud of what she achieved.”
Thelma’s funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, High Crompton, on Thursday at 10.15am.
