A HOUSING support officer for First Choice Homes Oldham has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Suzanne Fields, who beat more than 300 entrants, was put forward for the Housing Heroes gong after going the extra mile to find accommodation for homeless John Slinger (60).

The 38-year-old, of Shelley Road, Derker, is now one of six left in the running for the Frontline Service Individual of the Year Award.

The awards scheme aims to shine the spotlight on outstanding employees and teams who work in the social/affordable housing sector. The mother-of-two joined First Choice Homes Oldham as a housing officer eight years ago and now works as a housing support officer.

The winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on June 10, hosted by former politician Michael Portillo.

Suzanne said: “I am overwhelmed and excited. I don’t do dresses but I will have to go out and buy myself one for this!”

Hugh Broadbent, chief executive of First Choice Homes Oldham described Suzanne as an outstanding member of staff.

He added: “The recent visit from Housing Minister Iain Wright acknowledges the excellent work that Suzanne and our teams offer which can really help turn people’s lives around.

“The key is dedicated, fantastic staff and a secure home which folk can get from First Choice Homes Oldham.”

Inside Housing’s events director Ted Stevens added: “All the finalists have done brilliantly in getting this far.

“Well done to Suzanne for getting shortlisted. The competition was really fierce.”
