A caring group of women has launched a new special events team to support a top charity’s fund-raising efforts in Oldham.

And, as a vanguard of their exciting activities, “Coronation Street” celebrity, Craig Gazey, who plays Graham Proctor, will be guest at a glittering summer ball.

One of the volunteer team, Amanda Flynn, a human resources manager, who lives in Grasscroft, said: “We are looking to the community to help make the event a huge success.

“The NSPCC is such a worthwhile cause and we would welcome anyone who could assist with sponsorship or raffle prizes for the event.

“We know locals who have generous hearts and we are hoping for a big attendance.”

The ball takes place on Friday, July 10, at the White Hart at Lydgate. Tickets, priced at £35 each, include champagne on arrival, a four-course meal and entertainment.

Amanda added: “If people can’t support us by giving money, they might want to give their time.

“We are looking for more volunteers to join our team and they can give as much or as little time as they want.

“We may be in a credit crunch but that doesn’t stop thousands of children across the country needing our help.

“We want to make a real difference to the children and young people in the Oldham area with our fund-raising efforts.”

Nathalie Coverley, NSPCC fund-raising manager, said: “The new Oldham special events group are organising what is set to be a truly fantastic night.

“Their passion for the NSPCC is shown in all of the hard work and dedication that they’re putting into the night.

“We are all conscious of the current financial climate but we’re determined to keep raising much needed funds for children and young people in Oldham and surrounding areas.

“We’ve actually found that people are being more creative with their charity giving and are instead donating time, resources and facilities if they can’t afford to give money.”

Nathalie added: “There are lots of ways people can support the NSPCC and our local events. We are continually trying to keep the costs of events down so that they raise as much money as possible for the children we support.”
