Moorhey Street depot
Allegations of fuel thefts from the Moorhey Street depot are being investigated by police and Oldham Council.
Six employees were arrested by police yesterday. Five of them have been released without charge and one has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The men involved are believed to be from the highways and parks staff and to have been suspended until the inquiries are completed.
The council’s cabinet member for finance and resources, Councillor Lynne Thompson, said: “I can confirm that six staff were arrested and investigations are ongoing.
“The council takes all allegations of fraud extremely seriously and deals with any alleged incident confidentially.
“There is a zero tolerance approach to fraud and corruption and all staff are encouraged to report any alleged incidents to the dedicated hotline on 0161-770 4969.”
