Cancer course help

CANCER sufferers have been invited to join a free six-week “Living with Cancer” course due to start in Oldham next week.
It will be run by 55-year-old Mary Jennings, who was treated for breast cancer in 2004 and hopes to get the all-clear in August.
She said: “After I had treatment for breast cancer, I was unable to continue working full-time in the retail sector, so I reduced my hours and took the opportunity to get involved with Macmillan Cancer Support.
“I started off by fund-raising and then heard about this course. The unique thing about it is that the tutors have had a cancer diagnosis themselves.
“During the course we shared our hopes and fears and used self-management tips such as visualisation exercise and positive thinking.”
Mary found the course so helpful, she decided to volunteer as a course tutor, and has run courses both in Oldham and Birmingham.
She added: “One of the best things about my role as a tutor is seeing how participants become more confident as the weeks go by.”
Mary sent out an invitation to Oldhamers who are living with cancer.
“If you would like to increase your confidence and develop a greater sense of control over your life then why not join us on the course,” she said.
It starts next Wednesday at Oldham Cancer Support Centre, which is based at Failsworth Primary Care Centre.
