Volunteer Maureen Barton (front) gets down to the job of tidying up
SUNSHINE and blue skies helped hard-working volunteers spruce up the canal at Daisy Nook during a working party weekend.
Members of the Hollinwood Canal Society and The Waterways Recovery Group slipped on protective gear to clean up a stretch of canal. Volunteers concentrated on a stretch from Crime lake to Waterhouses Locks in Daisy Nook Country Park. They fished out rubbish from the canal, repaired borders at the edge of the towpath and tidied up the area for visitors.
A spokesman for the society said: “Our aim is to preserve and protect the waterways and we are always looking for more volunteers.”
