Eyesore sign given the boot

CHADDERTON Town Hall’s controversial grey sign is to be taken down — and a review carried out of all the borough’s historic building.
The move is a victory for campaigners who branded it an eyesore and more in-keeping with a tip. The sign was erected without planning permission as part of Oldham Council’s £500,000 rebranding carried out by consultants Hemisphere.
Councillor Dave Hibbert started the GROT (Get Rid of the Signs) petition and confirmed a meeting had been held between Chadderton councillors and officers.
He said: “It has now been agreed to reconsider the branding issues in relation to historic buildings and Hemisphere has been asked to bring forward other alternatives.
“In the meantime, it has been agreed to take down the sign at Chadderton Town Hall pending the results of this work. This is a success for local people and for common sense.”
