Celebrating St George
Date published: 24 April 2009
OLDHAMERS young and old came together to mark St George’s Day with a celebration of the country’s heritage.
At the Spring Vale Inn, Chadderton, landlord John Byron decked the pub in England flags and encouraged customers to wear patriotic red and white.
Over at the Alphabet Bungalow Nursery in St Mary’s, tots were treated to a traditional English banquet and made helmets and shields decorated with the St George cross.
Youngsters also had the flags painted on their faces and enjoyed stories about St George in their specially decorated garden.
