Wonderful Alice is given birthday cheer
Date published: 24 April 2009
FULL-OF-LIFE Alice Briscoe, who celebrates her 102nd birthday on Monday, received a surprise visit in hospital from Oldham Mayor, Councillor Shoab Akhtar.
The sprightly centenarian was admitted to the Royal Oldham after falling and breaking her arm.
The Mayor dropped in with a bouquet of flowers and congratulated Alice on her special birthday.
Mrs Briscoe, who has lived in Smallbrook, Shaw, for many years puts her longevity down to being happy and loved by close family and friends.
She said: “I only feel 21!”
Her great great neice, Hazel Garnett, said: “We would like to have a party for Alice but it depends if she is discharged from hospital. But we would like to do something.”
Councillor Akhtar, who visited along with Mayoress Shafeena Kausar, said: “We want to wish Mrs Briscoe a happy birthday and all the best. I want to thank her for sharing her birthday with us.”
