Six charged after swoop

SIX people have been charged after a drugs raid in Oldham uncovered heroin with an estimated street value of £2.5 million.

The arrests were made after police raided a number of homes across the borough on Tuesday.

The operation was part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of class A drugs.

Officers discovered a total of 25kilos of heroin at houses in Stockfield Mount, and Briarmere Walk, Chadderton, and in a car in Garforth Street, Oldham.

Mohammed Abbas (23), of Bobbin Walk, Glodwick, Abdul Rashid (31), of Rochdale Road, Oldham, Kason Miah (27), of Barton Street, Westwood, Anthony Fagan (36), of Netherhey Street, Abbeyhills, Ibrahim Choudhury (22), from Northampton ,and Muhammed Esak Ali (29), of Briarmere Walk, Chadderton, have all been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

They appeared before magistrates in Oldham yesterday.

Four other men, aged between 21 and 30, were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Chief Supt Caroline Ball, divisional commander for Oldham, said: “The warrants were carried out as a direct response to information received from, and concerns raised by, members of the community.

“This result is a great example of how Greater Manchester Police, and specifically my officers in Oldham, are responding to what our residents are telling us.”

She added: “The substantial amount of heroin recovered as part of the operation represents a significant find for the division and is testament to the work we are undertaking.

“I would encourage anyone with any information about anyone involved in the sale or supply of drugs to contact GMP immediately.”
