Dawn raid nets 346 cannabis plants
Date published: 29 April 2009
A CANNABIS farm was discovered by officers during a dawn raid in Woodhouses yesterday.
Officers from the Oldham Operational Support Unit and the Failsworth Neighbourhood Office swooped on homes on Medlock Road where a total of 86 mature and 260 nursery cannabis plants were seized.
Officers raided a second house in Tuxford Walk, Collyhurst and seized equipment and a cannabis bush.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
The raids were part of Operation Dragonfly, set up in 2007 to crack down on cannabis farms across the region and to disrupt the supply of cannabis.
PC Robert Griffiths, of the Failsworth Neighbourhood Office, said: “This is another example of how police and the community are working together.
“I hope it shows the community that if they do have information about criminality in their area, we will listen and we take action.
“Officers in Oldham are constantly working to stop drugs hitting our streets and with the public’s help and information, we can combat this.”
