Illegal immigrant stabbed grandmother in front of boy, then hanged himself
AN ILLEGAL immigrant stabbed his estranged girl friend’s mother in front of her 10-year-old grandson before hanging himself.
Moroccan Abdul Boraron (32) acted in a fit of rage while searching for the mother of his three children, Samantha Bradbury, who had been moved to a refuge away from Oldham to escape him, an inquest heard.
He barged his way into Adrienne Acton’s house in Summercroft, Chadderton, on June 24 last year, and attacked her when he failed to find her daughter there.
He stabbed her with a shard of glass and a small knife in front of her terrified 10-year-old grandson Reece before going into a bedroom to hang himself with a cord from his trousers. Ms Acton was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital with multiple stab wounds but made a full recovery. Police unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate Abdul. Detectives said there was enough evidence to charge him with attempted murder had he not died.
A sobbing Miss Bradbury told yesterday’s hearing at Oldham Magistrate’s Court: “I think that’s why he hanged himself as he thought my mum was dead.” She told the inquest that Abdul was from a poor area and was beaten by his dad as a child. He left school at a young age to work selling fish and repairing cars.
He was homeless in Morocco and was once jailed for stealing a sandwich because he was hungry.
Abdul moved to Italy then France before entering England in 1999 as an illegal immigrant. He was caught and sent back to France but managed to re-enter in 2000 by hiding underneath a lorry.
He spent time in London and applied for asylum. He was sent to Manchester. His claims were not credible but despite his application being rejected, he remained in the country and met Miss Bradbury in Oldham.
They lived on the streets as heroin addicts and he spent time in prison for shoplifting. But the couple tried to kick their habits and moved into a house in Huxley Street, Clarksfield.
Tragedy struck in October, 2005, when their son Eiyha Abdul Boraron was born, but died in hospital four days later after appearing to be accidentally smothered by his tired mum. An inquest later recorded an open verdict.
The couple went on to have two more children but while Abdul was proud of them Miss Bradbury said he was very possessive and aggressive towards her.
“He always told me that if I left him he would leave me with nothing and kill himself,” she said.
She eventually left him to move in with her mum but Abdul kidnapped their youngest child. Social Services moved Samantha to a refuge but Abdul was frantic to find them.
Coroner Barrie Williams recorded a verdict that he took his own life.
