Comedian hits 86
Date published: 06 May 2009
Comedian Eric Sykes has celebrated his 86th birthday.
The Oldham-born star had a tragic start to life when his mother died giving birth to him. He was brought up by neighbours until he was two.
His love of entertaining was nurtured while serving with the RAF during the Second World War, and he was in the first series of “The Goon Show” on radio.
He later moved into writing comedy and then into TV and films.
He was awarded the CBE in 2005, and is still working, lately appearing in the film “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.
