FORGET TV sensation Susan Boyle, locals in Fitton Hill proved that Oldhamers have got talent, with a special roadshow to showcase the area’s best singers and dancers.
The New Deal for Communities programme is looking for people of all ages to perform at its prestigious Achievers’ Awards in July.
NDC talent scouts were out in force at the Village Housing Office in Fir Tree Avenue to pick out potential performers. The talent-spotters will be out again at two further roadshows — on Saturday at the Honeywell Centre in Ashton Road and on May 16 in Dowry Street, Hathershaw. Both will run 10am-4pm.
Andy Lee will be compering the event and a panel of judges will select seven finalists from each of the roadshows.
The 21 finalists will then perform at the grand final at the Honeywell Centre on June 20 and the judges will select four winners.
The four will then perform at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the achievers’ awards, which recognise members of the public who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.
Anyone who thinks they have got what it takes should complete the registration forms, posted to Fitton Hill residents, or download it from the NDC’s website at www.oldhamndc.org.uk
Alternatively, forms can be picked up from Langham House, the Honeywell Centre or any community venue across the area. Once registered, the NDC will allocate contestants a spot at one of the roadshows.
