TWO years of hard work by environmentally conscious staff and pupils at Shaw’s Rushcroft Primary School has paid off.
The school has been awarded the Green Flag for being an eco-friendly school after proving it dealt with environmental issues covering nine topics. These included litter, energy, water, waste, transport, healthy living, school grounds, bio-diversity and global perspective.
Among the achievements are an after-school eco/gardening club set up several years ago. Around 16 children attend the club and are split into two teams — Spuds and Onions — who attend on alternate weeks.
The school’s site manager Ray Turner and grandparent Phil Rowley are the club leaders and ensure activities are enjoyable and safe.
