Swimming in memory of tragic Emma
Date published: 08 May 2009
KIND-HEARTED Oldhamers are getting in the swim to raise money in honour of Emma Holt, who died suddenly last year.
Emma was only 21 when she collapsed while visiting friends on May 28.
The popular pharmacy assistant from Lees was born with a heart defect.
Now, as the first anniversary of Emma’s death approaches, her family and friends are raising money for the British Heart Foundation in her memory, with a sponsored swim tomorrow.
Four of Emma’s friends will be taking to the water at Oldham baths to cover 30 lengths, and they are hoping that as many Oldhamers as possible will pop in to show their support.
Angela Augsburger, who is taking part in the swim, said: “We have already collected £1,000 with a bag pack at Sainsbury’s. The swim was another fundraising idea which came to us and we’d be really grateful to any Oldhamers who would like to drop in between noon and 1pm and donate to our collection.”
The swim will be followed by a charity event at Springhead Football Club on May 30, also in aid of the British Heart Foundation. It starts at noon and will feature a bouncy castle, football, magician and raffle, followed by a band and karaoke in the evening.
