On the ball . . . Mayor of Oldham Councillor Shoab Akhtar drops in on the roadshow
MORE than 220 pupils had a go at paralympic sports, including kurling — a version of curling played without ice — at the three-day Oldham Ability Partnership Roadshow.
Oldham Athletic and wheelchair basketball team Oldham Owls took part in the sessions at Counthill, Hathershaw, Kaskenmoor and New Bridge schools.
The aim was to get more pupils with disabilities and additional needs playing sport and taking part in weekly sessions at Blue Coat and Lyndhurst schools.
Sport development officer Lee Ashworth said more than 35 schools took part and added: “It was aimed at young people who perhaps do not take part in PE at school. It gave them a chance to play on a level playing field.”
