Veteran to quit
Date published: 12 May 2009
A veteran councillor who has been rejected by the Royton South ward to fight in next year’s council elections is stepping down as deputy Labour group leader.
Serving Failsworth East Councillor and former Mayor Peter Dean swapped to try for the Royton ward after moving there two years ago. But Labour members turned him down in favour of former Royton councillor Phil Harrison last week.
Now Councillor Dean has indicated he will step down as deputy to Labour leader, Councillor Jim McMahon.
