Swimmers on collision course at leisure pool

DISGRUNTLED swimmers say they are fed up with playing the generation game at a showpiece pool and leisure centre in Uppermill.
Early evening swim sessions have attracted both younger and older swimmers at the Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre, which reopened last month after a £1.5 million makeover.
But young swimmers wanting to play and older customers trying to swim has led to collisions.
One 60-year-old swimmer, from Uppermill, who did not want to be named, said: “It is downright dangerous to have users of the pool bumping into each other all the time. My solution would be to divide the pool into two lanes — one for the youngsters and the other for the older swimmers.”
When a delegation of three older swimmers complained on Friday evening, a spokeswoman doubted the pool could be successfully divided in two.
She said: “We generally prefer to divide the sessions into those for adults and those for children. The evening swim on Friday can be very popular though and we will consider the suggestions of the swimmers.”
