Revamped library’s opening date
Date published: 13 May 2009
The temporary Lees library closes on Saturday ready for the unveiling of the new community hub.
A Lottery grant of more than £500,000 has been spent extending the Thomas Street library to offer a broader range of community activities.
The new hub opens on June 1 at 9.30am. The old building has been extended and refurbished, to include a community space and improved learning and computer facilities. A temporary portable cabin has been used for the library since October, but will close on Saturday at 1pm.
For the next two weeks the nearest services will be at Oldham Library and Lifelong Learning Centre, and Greenfield and Uppermill libraries. A programme of community events to celebrate the opening will take place in June and July.
