Women’s group’s sell-out fund-raiser
MORE than 176 Women of the North joined forces to raise funds for the Oldham Talking Newspaper.
The sell-out event, hosted by the president of the Women of the North Association, Lady Montgomery, saw guests enjoying an afternoon of fine dining and entertainment at The Stanley House Hotel at Mellor near Blackburn.
The annual Women of the North Luncheon, now in its 45th year, aims to bring women from all walks of life together to contribute to a special cause — and has raised many thousands of pounds for its nominated charities in recent years.
All proceeds from the luncheon and raffle will go to the Oldham Talking Newspaper and Children Today, a charity which helps disabled children and young people.
Organisers hope to raise around £8,000 but have not yet calculated the full amount from the event. The Oldham Tal—king Newspaper is a body of volunteers who produce a weekly tape for the visually impaired, taken from coverage in the Oldham Chronicle.
