Club Call highlights hard work by community organisations in and around Oldham.
In the latest, reporter DAWN ECKERSLEY speaks to Bessie Furness, membership secretary of the Time of Your Life Club in Mossley.
YOU’RE never too old to make new friends and indulge in a spot of exercise — that’s the motto of the Time of Your Life Club in Mossley.
The group — for over-50s — meets at the George Lawton Hall each Wednesday from 10am. Activities include table tennis, badminton, bowling, plus active and chair aerobics. Around 100 people attend the sessions, which end with a cup of tea and a chat.
Membership secretary Bessie Furness said: “It’s a great place to come and meet new people and we always have a laugh.
“Everyone seems to be very jolly and we get people from all over Oldham and Tameside. The ages range from 50 to 90 and there is a good mix of men and women.
“It gives older people the chance for a great social life and a reason to get out of the house and have fun. I would really recommend it.”
Annual membership is £3 and weekly subs are £1 but new members get their first session free. Anyone interested in joining can call Bessie on 01457-835949 or simply turn up to a meeting.
