Pupils praised for promoting fight against racism

PUPILS from six primary and secondary schools were praised at an awards ceremony for producing outstanding work to stamp out racism.
Youngsters from Beal Vale Primary, Shaw; Corpus Christie, Chadderton; Our Lady’s, Royton; St Hugh’s, Holt; St John’s Infant and Nursery, Failsworth and Blackshaw Lane Primary, Royton, produced course work and posters highlighting how racism should be tackled.
Their work was acknowledged by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar who presented them with the awards at the civic centre.
Tariq Rafiq, project manager for Oldham Race Equality Partnership (OREP) said: “These schools took part in the “No Place for Racism Campaign” and produced course work and posters about how racism divides communities, and what they think Oldham should be like in 10 years time.”
He added: “The award ceremony was organised to congratulate them on their efforts.”
