Been and gone: the gates have been removed, but the posts stay
AN alleygate at the back of a mum’s house was removed — four days after it was installed.
Victoria Heney (33), of Belgrave Road, Hathershaw, said: “It was only put up a few days ago. I don’t have a clue why it has been removed. No one has even bothered to tell us it was going. Even when it was put up we would get youths in the back because they would some how get in from under the gate.”
Colin Cockcroft from the Community Safety Unit, who is in charge of the alleygating scheme, said the gate was installed by mistake as the gating order had not been granted.
He added: “As the alleyway is adopted, permission has to be received legally under the Cleaner Neighbourhood and Environment Act.
“The gating order has been submitted and the council is now waiting for permission. The gates have been funded by New Deal for Communities.”
