Porn probe police workers suspended
Date published: 15 May 2009
THREE Greater Manchester Police workers have been suspended over allegations of viewing pornography at work.
They are male members of the force’s Corporate Communications Branch, which has about 30 staff working for the press office, public relations department, internal communications and force website. They are not police officers.
It has been reported that GMP launched an investigation after claims that a member of staff had been looking at obscene images and the computers of other workers were seized and checked.
The worker who raised concerns is understood to be one of those suspended.
The investigation is being carried out by GMP’s Professional Standards Branch.
In a statement, GMP said: “Three members of police staff have been suspended while an investigation over alleged inappropriate use of IT systems is carried out.
“As the investigation is still active it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.”
