CELEBRATE the voluntary sector at a fun-filled fair tomorrow.
Voluntary Action Oldham is holding the free event which is open to the public at the Queen Elizabeth Hall from 2-7pm.
Oldham Mayor, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, will be on hand to officially open the fair which contains exhibitions from some 60 organisations.
Celebration of the Sector is an opportunity to showcase all the good things the voluntary sector does in Oldham.
Visitors can take part in activities such as face painting and balloon modelling and Oldham Community Radio will be broadcasting live throughout the day on 99.7FM.
There will be a poetry workshop at 5pm called the Triolet Challenge when local children’s author Sefton Green will be attending with copies of his new book “Space Painters”.
Local art groups will be showing off their paintings, answering questions and offering top artistic tips.
Principles
A Thai kick-boxing display will keep all entertained, while visitors can view a rapid response vehicle and a fire engine.
The event gives Oldhamers the opportunity to find out about volunteering or to join local groups and organisations.
Advice will be available on topics such as crime prevention, children and youth services, environmental issues and health and disability.
During the day, Oldham’s Compact agreement, and partnership between local statutory bodies and the voluntary community and faith sector, will be signed.
The agreement states the shared principles, values and commitments that will be the foundation for a strong relationship between the sectors.
A closing ceremony filled with song and dance will bring the event to a conclusion at 6pm.
For more information, call Cath Cook or Howard Sutcliffe on 0161-633 6222 or simply turn up on the day.
