Special school plans on show
Date published: 18 May 2009
DETAILS about the planned school for special needs pupils in Oldham are being put on view in Chadderton tomorrow.
The £4.74m scheme is planned to provide a new state-of-the-art school on the site of the current South Chadderton school in Butterworth Lane, Chadderton, which is due to close in 2010.
The new school will be a key feature of the Building Schools for the Future investment programme for the borough and will replace the former special needs school in Dean Street, Oldham which closed in 2006.
The new school is scheduled to open in September, 2013, and would retain the South Chadderton school sports facilities, including the sports centre and playing fields, which are also currently used by local residents as part of services for the local community.
A drop-in information evening will be held tomorrow at South Chadderton School between 4pm and 7pm.
As part of the preparations for the new site, the council will shortly be looking to seek tenders from bidders to manage the new school, though funding for the initiative will be through the local authority.
