TWO life-savers have been honoured by the National Blood Service for making 75 donations each.
Paul Carty, of Chadderton, and Lisa Fletcher each received a crystal plate from PCSO Gary Etchells, of Glossop, who needed multiple blood transfusions after he was stabbed in the neck while on routine patrol in Stalybridge three years ago.
The pair were honoured for their dedication to saving lives at a glittering luncheon held at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Old Trafford.
Lisa (39), of Royton, said: “I have always felt that as I am able to give, I should do.
“It’s not a case of why do I give blood but why should I not?”
The ceremony was a way of recognising the commitment that long-serving blood donors give to saving the lives of others.
Each blood donation can potentially save the lives of up to three people so if a donor has given 75 blood donations they have potentially helped save the lives of up to 225 patients in local hospitals.
Pam Prescott, communications officer for the National Blood Service, said “All our donors are special but it is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way.
“They continue to make time to donate come rain or shine and really are the lifeblood of our service.”
Anyone aged over 17, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12 lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
