Cannabis farm found in old mill basement
Date published: 20 May 2009
POLICE have uncovered a cannabis farm in the basement of a Chadderton mill.
Around 700 cannabis plants were found in Vale Mill, Stockfield Road, yesterday. Equipment used to grow the drugs was also discovered.
PC Ian Hope, from the Chadderton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is yet another example of the police and local community in Oldham working together and achieving good results.
“Not only has this raid led to a sizeable seizure of cannabis, which will now not hit the streets, but it sends out a clear message to criminals responsible for selling drugs that we are actively tackling this head-on.
“We have been responding to information given to us by members of the public.
“I would urge anyone with any information about illegal activity to contact the police directly or Crimestoppers. You will be listened to and your concerns taken seriously.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
