ACTION-GIRL Kendra Green netted £1,557 for the Christie’s at Oldham appeal by leaping out of an aircraft at 14,000ft.

The brave 23-year-old took to the skies to raise money in memory of her uncle, former rugby league star Mick Hough.

The ex-amateur international prop forward died from cancer in January at the age of 54, and it was his illness that spurred his niece into action.

She said: “I decided to do a charity event when my uncle was diagnosed with cancer around Christmas.

“Unfortunately, he deteriorated very quickly and he was diagnosed as being terminally-ill just two weeks before he passed away.

“Although my Uncle Mick wasn’t treated at the Christie, he spent a lot of time in the Royal Oldham Hospital, and the new radiotherapy centre currently under construction came to my attention.

“I had always wanted to do a skydive and it seemed an apt thing to do in the circumstances.”

Mick, who lived in Chadderton, played at amateur level for Waterhead, Lancashire and Great Britain, and at pro level for Mansfield Marksmen.

He also coached many up and coming young players in Oldham.

His niece was sponsored for the challenge by family and friends, colleagues at Leeds-based International Personal Finance — the company also made a £250 donation — university pals and friends of her uncle at a benefit function hosted by Waterhead Amateur Rugby League Football Club.

Kendra, who lives in Paulden Avenue, Waterhead, did the jump in February.

It was a tandem skydive from 14,000ft with a one- minute freefall before the parachute opened.

She said: “It was a thrilling experience and I enjoyed every second, although I was nervous beforehand.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored me.”
