A HARD-WORKING volunteer was officially recognised for her charity and community work during a special ceremony.

Retiring Saddleworth Parish Council chairman, Councillor Pat Lord, held a unique presentation evening to honour the efforts of Joan McLean.

A total of 60 guests were invited to Greenfield Conservative Club for the dinner which saw Councillor John Hudson give an entertaining speech.

Mrs McLean was thanked for her work with various charities, including her main charity Myasthenia Gravis, Macmillan Cancer Support and Oldham Hospital League of Friends among others. She is also a very active member of the Saddleworth Parish Chairman’s Charity Committee and supports Springhead Community Centre at coffee mornings and clean-up weekends.

Councillor Lord said: “This was the first ever event of its kind held in Saddleworth and was a great success.

“Her husband, Frank, is also a keen charity worker and is always there working alongside Joan.

“We are all very proud of Joan.”

The proceeds from the event will be given to Saddleworth junior schools.
