Trainee PCs on the beat
Date published: 22 May 2009
THERE will be more bobbies on the beat tonight as 21 student officers join the Oldham West Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Along with 10 trainers, they will be out on patrol from 4pm until midnight, helping the neighbourhood officers tackle anti-social behaviour, as well as offering crime prevention advice to residents.
Sgt Trevor Harrison said: “Training in the community is an excellent way to give the student officers practical experience while boosting their confidence. It also reassures the local community and deters criminals by providing a high visibility police presence in the area.
“Residents have told us that anti-social behaviour is an issue during the evening so the student officers will provide an extra boost to the increased patrols we already have in place at these times.”
