TWO flagship Oldham schools have won a top national award.
The quality of the design and build of The Radclyffe (pictured left) and Failsworth schools has been recognised at the National Public, Private Finance Awards 2009 held in London.
Submitted together as the Oldham Schools PFI they came away with the top prize in the Best Designed Project award.
Built by Kier, after Oldham Council signed a £97 million PFI deal, The Radclyffe was inspired by the Trafford Centre while Failsworth pupils wanted their school to look like a business centre.
Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for children, young people and families said: “This is very good news for both schools and I would like to offer my congratulations to head teachers Hardial Hayer and David Johnson who are such excellent ambassadors for education in Oldham.
“Both The Radclyffe and Failsworth schools are prime examples of the type of high quality buildings that we need in Oldham to educate our children and I am delighted that this has been recognised nationally.
“I would also like to thank all the young people at both schools who were involved in the design process to make schools that they want to learn in.”
