Older drivers back on course
Date published: 27 May 2009
MATURE motorists are being offered a free refresher driving course this week.
Oldham Council’s Road Safety team is running the course at the Fitton Hill Centre for Professional Development on Rosary Road on Friday from 2-4pm.
Leading the tutorial will be representatives from the Driving Standards Agency and the Institute of Advanced Motoring.
They say that all drivers are very gradually affected by the ageing process, meaning they may not be aware of having slower reaction times or of being less confident on the road.
The course aims to re-establish mature drivers’ confidence in coping with modern driving conditions.
Older drivers statistically have fewer crashes than 20-29-year-olds, but can experience more problems in negotiating busy junctions.
